Temminck's Stint - Calidris temminckii

A small wader, at 13.5 to 15 cm lin ength it is similar in size to the Little Stint. This species is shorter legged and longer winged than Little Stint. The legs are yellow, and the outer tail feathers white, in contrast to Little Stint's dark legs and grey outer tail feathers.

Occurring mainly by freshwater marshes, pools and lakes in the UK, although they also visit creeks and lagoons in estuaries. The species breeds mostly in the Arctic and is rare in this country, breeding at a few confidential sites in Scotland.

Temminck's Stints pass through the UK between May and mid-June and again between the end of July and October; most birds are seen here in May

A scarce passage migrant in most of the UK (less than 100 records a year) with most records from the east coast. Much more numerous in spring (May) than autumn most years. Rare breeder (4 pairs).
