Getting There

Green Lane track verge turns off Thistleton Lane/Witham Road just to the east of the village of Thistleton, just before the road bend. From the A1, exit westwards onto Broadgate Road and drive into South Witham. Thistleton Lane is a left turn off the High Street.

Description

Designated a Local Wildlife Site in 2005, the Green Lane verge includes both sides of the road, with the southern side 511 metres in length, and the northen side 632 metres in length. The verges are 1-5 metres wide, and the main habitat is mesotrophic grassland.

Wildlife Highlights

Recorded species include: Glaucous Sedge, Hairy Sedge, False Fox-sedge, Spiked Sedge, Wood-sedge, Common Knapweed, Meadow Vetchling, Common Bird's-foot-trefoil, Meadow Buttercup, Red Clover, Hard Rush, and Cowslip.
